Now's the time to start planting fruiting trees and plants.
If you have plenty of room, consider trees.....pear, apple, citrus, cherry, plum, nuts, tamarillo, feijoa, etc., of a size and type to suit your climate and soil. There are some rootstocks available for different soil types.
If space is an issue, consider growing the trees in an espalier system....either against a wall or fence, or as a `step-over', which is a traditional European style of espalier.
Soft fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, currants, are easily grown in potager gardens and pots or planter boxes.
Always check that the plant is suitable for your area, and that you will have the time for any pruning or maintenance that may be required.
