New Zealand mountain landscapes

Sunday, 3 February 2013

This is the perfect time of year to head for the hills and see some our beautiful natural landscapes. The South island mountains are stunning at this time of year, with the bush flowering and the herb fields above the bushline a mass of delightful flowering plants. On Saturday we tramped to the summit of Mt Arthur in the Kahurangi National Park, and as well as stunning weather, we saw a incredible display of mountain flowers. There was vivid red Rata flowering in the valley, magnificent stands of Dracophyllum traversii in the beech forest, and Edelweiss and NZ Bluebells scattered over exposed alpine scree. A magic wonderland!
